This section is still work in progress and contains misc. notes from correspondence.

1Sgt O L Midkiff was born 12 Dec 1925, left CONUS for Vietnam 20 Sep 1967 and killed Hostile, Died by Other Explosive Device in Binh Duong province on 31 May 1968 at age 42. So lots of Alpha guys from 1967-68 should recall him (being a 1Sgt doesn't always engender one's troops to you). This included Capt Al Wetzel's (dec) rough command from Dec to April 1968.

His Home of Record was Dundee KY, his MOS 11G50 Infantry Senior Sergeant, service #RA 35829801 and he'd been in Army more than 18 years service.

I cannot tell you whether 1Sgt (E-8) Midkiff was assigned to another unit before his time in A Co 2-22 (Mech) Inf. O L Midkiff was a WW II veteran ( joined at 17 was clearing roads into Germany, got out after war then rejoined later) as well as a Korean War Vet. He was killed by a bomb at the Laterite area per Major Harvey Holter and eye witness Bennet Anderson. Another Sgt E-7 was badly injured also, actually thought dead but recover and returned to duty. I would like to hear from John Bradley if possible and other men who worked with him.

I have pics of him in the field near the Cambodian boarder and Jan 1 pics of taking APC to FSB. Jan 2 pics of bodies everywhere. He was in and out of Base camp frequently per his letter to my mother. He never really talked about what battles he was in specifically. I do know he had seen many before Vietnam. Before Nam he was E-8 Fort Leanordwood Mo training guys for combat. Prior to that he was stationed in Bamberg Germany Armor Division during cold war.
